Viviane Reding
As Commissioner for Information, Society and Media for the European Commission, Viviane Reding is responsible for all communications infrastructure within the European Union, including telecommunication networks, broadband internet access and satellite communications, new communications technologies, and digital material.
Reding joined the European Commission in 1999 as Commissioner for Education and Culture before moving to Information, Society and Media.
Originally from Luxembourg, she first began her political career in 1979 as a Member of the Luxembourg Parliament. She also served as City Councilor, city of Esch-sur-Alyette (Luxembourge), National President of Christian-Social Women (Luxembourge) and Vice-President, PCS (Luxembourge). Viviane Reding joined the European Parliament in 1989, where she served numerous positions, including President of the Petitions Committee, Vice-President of Social Committee and Vice-President of Civil Liberties and Internal Affairs Committee.
She earned her Doctor of Human Science in Sorbonne, Paris.
